Aion 2 Essence Extraction is the single skill behind all gathering: ore, gems, logs, herbs, cooking ingredients and Odyle. NC has not published its rules, so everything below comes from client data read by third-party sites and from guides that agree with each other. Where they disagree, we say so.
What is Essence Extraction in Aion 2?

It is the one shared gathering skill. It has 21 skills in total: 3 common ones and 18 specialty ones across 6 material families (Odyle, ore, gems, logs, herbs, ingredients). Any node needs only mastery level 1, and each attempt gives one unit. For what the materials make, see the crafting guide.
You open the system in the early story. The first-pet quests All Geared Up (Elyos) and Gathering Essentials (Asmodian) are where guides say gathering starts. See the pets guide for the same quests.
How does extraction succeed or fail?
Each attempt fills a blue success gauge and an orange failure gauge. Whichever fills first decides the outcome. A full success gauge gives the material, and a full failure gauge gives nothing.
- Both outcomes still give proficiency, so a failed pull is not wasted.
- Cancelling an attempt loses the charge and its proficiency. Let attempts finish.
- Clear nearby monsters first, because they can interrupt you.
- Nodes show up to three charges, and each attempt uses one.

Mastery levels 1 to 100 give 95 common and 14 specialty points in total. Maxing all three common skills costs 120 points and every family costs 42 specialty points, so you cannot max everything. Resetting costs 50,000 Kina. Client-data 2026-10-17 Source
A sensible start is to raise all three common skills to level 5 first (45 points), then spend specialty points on Odyle Seeker and the Seeker of the material you need most. After promotion, one guide suggests 10 Proficient Handling, 10 Delicate Touch and 5 Lady Luck. That split is a guide's advice, not a game rule.
How do I gather Odyle?

Odyle orbs float in the air. Fly to the orb and stay airborne until the attempt ends. A settings option turns on automatic flight for Odyle Extraction. Odyle comes in four grades: Odyle, Fine, Pure and Radiant.

Substance Morph converts Odyle into ore, gems, logs, herbs or cooking ingredients at 1 Odyle for 1 material of the same grade, but not the other way round. That makes Odyle the first thing most guides tell you to gather.
How do I become a Professional extractor?
Proficiency stops at Novice level 50. To go further, complete the quest [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty Skill, which has a recommended character level of 45.
- Reach Novice level 50.
- Speak to Korius in Verteron (Elyos) or Alzirr in Altgard (Asmodian).
- Gather Ruby nodes until you get one Splendent Ruby. It is an uncommon result of extraction, not a monster drop.
- Hand it in. You become Professional at once and get the Professional Extractor title.
Promotion may reset your assigned points, so check your skill screen. Ruby nodes can be briefly empty after another player takes them. See the map guide for regions.
