A good Aion 2 gear progression route starts with one question: where does each piece actually come from? The official item pages list one or more source labels for every item, such as Quest, Reward Chest and Expedition. We joined those labels to the gear that 1,600 strong level 45 characters wear, so you can see which sources feed which slot. This guide explains the pattern, then gives an upgrade order. It is not a drop table, because NC does not publish drop rates.
How to read the source labels
Official-sample 2026-10-18
Every item in the item database that has official detail carries a list called sources. It is a short label list, not a recipe. A label says an item can come from that kind of activity. It does not say how often, from which boss, or from which dungeon. The database holds 418 items with that detail, drawn from the gear worn by the characters in our sample (n=1,600 characters (top 200 per class), sampled 2026-10-18).
Two limits matter before you read any table. First, the sample is the strongest level 45 characters per class by combat power, so it describes where gear ends up for characters that have already pushed hard, not what an average new level 45 holds. Second, a single item can carry more than one label. 147 items list two or more labels, and 40 items list none, so shares across labels add up to more than 100 percent.
Which source labels feed the gear in the sample
Official-sample 2026-10-18
We counted every worn piece (one count per slot position) and asked which labels the item carries. Quest is the widest label, present on gear that makes up 49% of all worn pieces, followed by Reward Chest at 39%. Ascension, Crafting, Shugo Festival and Looted from monsters are a thin set of labels, each under five percent of worn pieces, so they matter only for specific slots.
| Source label | Items | Worn pieces | Share of worn pieces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quest | 125 | 15,632 | 49% |
| Reward Chest | 176 | 12,344 | 39% |
| Expedition | 116 | 9,436 | 30% |
| Sanctuary | 91 | 8,809 | 28% |
| Substance Morph | 4 | 2,772 | 9% |
| Ascension | 2 | 1,511 | 5% |
| Crafting | 16 | 1,453 | 5% |
| Shugo Festival | 41 | 328 | 1% |
| Looted from monsters | 54 | 146 | under 1% |
Official-sample 2026-10-18 Items with several labels are counted under each label. Sample: n=1,600 characters (top 200 per class), sampled 2026-10-18.
Read the table as breadth, not rank. A label with fewer items can still be the only way to reach one slot. That is why the next section looks at slots one at a time.
Source labels slot by slot
Official-sample 2026-10-18
The table shows, for each slot, the share of worn pieces whose item carries each of the four widest labels. Rows do not sum to 100 percent for the reason above. The last column lists any other labels seen in that slot.
| Slot | Quest | Reward Chest | Expedition | Sanctuary | Other labels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Main hand | 89% | 10% | 10% | 10% | Looted from monsters, Shugo Festival, Crafting |
| Off hand | 3% | 15% | 15% | 15% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Helmet | 64% | 35% | 32% | 32% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Shoulders | 58% | 41% | 39% | 39% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Chest | 12% | 83% | 85% | 81% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Legs | 28% | 66% | 69% | 62% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Gloves | 24% | 74% | 71% | 70% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Boots | 27% | 71% | 69% | 68% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Cape | 44% | 54% | 53% | 52% | Shugo Festival, Looted from monsters |
| Necklace | 67% | 36% | 38% | 29% | none |
| Earrings | 74% | 28% | 29% | 23% | Crafting, Looted from monsters |
| Rings | 64% | 36% | 35% | 34% | Crafting, Looted from monsters |
| Bracelets | 53% | 0% | 0% | 0% | Ascension, Crafting |
| Belt | 14% | 0% | 0% | 0% | Substance Morph |
| Amulet | 11% | 0% | 0% | 0% | Substance Morph |
| Runes | 100% | 100% | 0% | 0% | none |
Official-sample 2026-10-18 Sample: n=1,600 characters (top 200 per class), sampled 2026-10-18.
Some slots are narrow. Belt lists only Substance Morph and Quest, amulet lists only Substance Morph and Quest and runes lists only Reward Chest and Quest. When a slot has one or two labels, you have few places to look, so plan those slots early and check whether the activity is open to you.
Substance Morph shows up on amulet and belt. Crafting shows up on bracelets, rings, earrings and main hand, which links the crafting guide to those slots. For main hand weapons, 89% of worn pieces carry the Quest label, so weapons are the easiest slot to start filling.
Do higher grades come from different places?
Official-sample 2026-10-18
The armory labels item grades Common, Rare, Unique and Legend, plus a Special grade used by the rune. Do not assume the order of those names is the order of power: the table shows the median piece item level of each grade so you can judge for yourself. We split the items by grade and checked the same four labels, to see whether a different grade means a different activity.
| Grade | Items | Median piece item level | Quest | Reward Chest | Expedition | Sanctuary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unique | 198 | 46 | 13% | 48% | 46% | 46% |
| Legend | 175 | 40 | 70% | 22% | 24% | 20% |
| Rare | 28 | 25 | 67% | 0% | 0% | 0% |
| Common | 16 | 20 | 13% | 0% | 0% | 0% |
Official-sample 2026-10-18 Share of worn pieces in that grade whose item carries the label.
Among Legend pieces, Quest is the most common label at 70% of worn pieces. That is a clear lead, so this is where to look first for that grade. We cannot say from labels alone how hard a Legend piece is to get, because no source gives drop rates.
What strong characters fill first
Official-sample 2026-10-18
Fill rate is the share of sampled characters with something in a slot. Every gear slot is almost always full among strong characters. Arcana is different: pooled across classes, only 10% of Arcana positions are filled, and runes sit at 92%. If you are building toward the sample's level, expect Arcana to be the last frontier. See the Arcana guide for how that system works.
Enchant levels tell the same story from another side. Main hand, off hand and legs carry the highest median enchant in the sample (+5 to +10), while runes, amulet and belt carry the lowest among filled slots (+0 to +2). That is where the sample spends its enchant stones first. The enchanting guide has the rules and rates, and the enchant priorities guide covers the per-class pattern.
Grade is a third signal. Helmet is 62% Legend, shoulders is 65% Legend and chest is 31% Legend in the sample, against necklace at 74%, earrings at 78% and rings at 77% for the first accessory slots. Each of those is an average over the classes, shown in the item database per item.

Official-sample 2026-10-18 Medians are the middle of the eight class medians for that slot. Sample: n=1,600 characters (top 200 per class), sampled 2026-10-18.
- 1. Weapons (average median enchant 9). The most worn main hand in the sample is Spiritforged Bow. Most worn weapons carry the Quest label, so they are easy to refill.
- 2. Armor (average median enchant 3.9). The chest slot favours Bakarma Breastplate, Vakron Breastplate and Anguish Breastplate. Armor has the broadest label coverage, so replacements arrive from whichever activity you already run.
- 3. Necklace, earrings, rings and bracelets (average median enchant 3.4). Bracelets lean on Ascension Bracelet, Liberator Bracelet and Pilgrim Bracelet. For rings, Pilgrim Ring and Liberator Ring lead the sample.
- 4. Runes and Arcana (average median enchant 1). Arcana positions are filled 10% of the time and runes 92%, so most strong characters leave Arcana for last.
- 5. Amulet and belt (average median enchant 0). Revelation Amulet are the common amulets, and Noble Belt the common belts. Their label lists are short, so check the source early.
This is a map of priorities. It does not claim that a slot lower on the list is unimportant. It says where strong characters in the sample spent their stones first.
How to use this route in practice
Editorial 2026-10-19
Pick the label that your daily routine already touches. If you run quests and expeditions every day, the widest labels will refill most slots without a special trip. If a slot is narrow, plan around it, then spend extra effort on it once. Compare what you find with the most worn item per slot on the class pages, for example Gladiator and Sorcerer, since weapons are class-bound and armor is not.
For a deeper look at how many strong characters wear one piece, open its item page. Items worn at least 70 times in the sample get their own indexable page, and every page lists base stats, labels and the class split. The tier list and the class stats show how classes compare once gear is equal.
Not confirmed yet
These points have no reliable Global source yet. Do not plan around them.
- Drop rates, drop locations or costs for any source label. NC publishes none.
- Which specific dungeon, quest or vendor an item with the Reward Chest or Expedition label comes from.
- Whether an item missing a label has no source or just no recorded one.
- How the armory grade name Legend maps to the grade names in the client. Its pieces show a different item level range from Unique, so we do not treat it as a higher grade.
- Whether the upgrade order above fits characters below the top of each class, because the sample covers only the strongest.

Aion 2 gear progression route FAQ
What does a source label mean on an item page?
It names a kind of activity that can give the item, taken from the official item data. It does not give odds, locations or costs. Items can carry several labels or none.
Which source covers the most gear?
Quest in our sample, at 49% of worn pieces, followed by Reward Chest. The figures move with each daily refresh.
Which gear slot should I fill first?
Strong characters in the sample put the most enchanting into main hand, off hand and legs. That is where we would start, but it is an editorial reading of the data, not a tested rule.
Are Arcana worth chasing early?
In the sample only 10% of Arcana positions are filled, so most strong characters treat them as a late step.
Do I need a different activity for higher-grade gear?
Legend pieces lean on Quest, which leads clearly. Labels alone cannot tell you how hard each grade is to get.
Can I see where one exact item comes from?
Yes. Open it in the item database. Each page lists the official source labels, the base stats and which classes wear it.
Is this a farming guide?
No. It maps where to look. Drop rates, boss tables and costs are not published by NC, so we do not state them.
